The small business market is competitive. There are a lot of people providing similar services and products. It’s even more important for you to stand above the crowd and give potential customers good reasons why they should choose you over another company offering the exact same products and services. Here are four reasons why customers should choose you:
You have competitive pricing. You charge rates for your products that are reasonable but still allow you to make money and find success as a businessperson. Because you don’t overcharge your customers, they are more likely to stay loyal and tell their friends about you. They will also take more kindly to times when you have to raise your rates because you offer them other incentives and discounts to make up for rate hikes that are simply part of doing business.
You behave in a professional manner. This means not being publicly upset when you lose a customer or a sale. It’s okay to be upset, but keep the rants among a few trusted people, rather than airing your dirty laundry on Facebook or Twitter. When interacting on social media, bepolite and don’t engage in arguments or drama with other users. Your website, blog, and social media sites are professionally maintained, either by you or an outside company. Your employees are polite and respectful to the customers (and to each other).
You understand supply and demand. Most of the products and services you offer are probably also offered by your competitors, but you have something special no other business in your area offers. It can be a distinctive product or a unique spin on one of the products/services you already offer. It’s important to have something different which allows you to stand out from the crowd.
You provide quality service and workmanship in everything you do. When you’re offered a job or take on a new client, you do everything you can to make the experience a great one. You go above and beyond, never doing anything halfway. If the customer is dissatisfied, you do everything to make it right so the customer will be pleased and, hopefully, become repeat business for you.
Certainly, there are lots of things you can do as a business owner to stand out from the crowd, but these tips offer a great place to start.
