Facebook can be a great place to host a contest since the site gets a lot of traffic daily. If you do it right, you can increase your exposure and have some fun while you’re at it. Facebook contests are a great way to engage your current fans and draw new ones into the fold — you never know when someone will become your next big client. We’ll do a post on Friday with tips for running a Facebook contest, but in the meanwhile, here are six suggestions for what kind of contest you could host.
Tie the contest into current events. If there’s a new business trend, ask your customers how you should latch on to it. The best idea wins a discount or free services for a period of time.
Ask customers for their best business tips (or some big lesson they’ve learned in business). The best tip and/or most unique lesson win a prize.
Have a contest to build likes and use a random number generator at the end of a certain period of time to choose a winner to receive a discount and/or free products/services.
Ask folks how they’d use a product. The most creative answer wins.
Ask people what they would name a product or service. Again, the most creative or unique answer wins.
Have customers vote on a product they would like to see go on sale. The product or service with the most votes goes on sale for a limited period of time (sort of like a flash sale).
The key to all of this is that contests don’t need to break the bank, or even cost anything at all. Use your creativity and think outside the box. Heck, you could even ask your customers for suggestions on what kind of contest you might hold. People love to win and they love free stuff — a contest combines the best of both worlds.
