You’ve probably heard the term SEO before and why it’s important, but maybe you don’t really know what it is and why you should be using it.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is how your visibility is measured in a search engine’s natural search results. Natural search results are those that are done via Google, Bing, etc. and do not come from the website owner driving traffic via some other method. The goal is to be as high up on the search list as you can because you’ll receive more visitors that way. SEO takes into consideration what topics people are searching for, the terms or keywords people use for their searches, and which search engines are being used for the specific searches.
SEO is important because the closer you are to the top of the search results, the more likely you are to get business. When doing a search, people tend to click the first thing that comes up. If that’s you, then you win. If it’s not, then you might get missed entirely. At the very least, when you’re just starting out, you want to do whatever you can to be on the first page. Getting to the top can take time and you don’t want to force it. It should happen organically, but also be something you’re working toward.
On Friday, we’ll share five tips about how you can use SEO to your advantage and get to the top of page one fast.
